METRA, of Rodengo Saiano in the province of Brescia, is a historic international company operating in the aluminium extrusion sector since 1962. Its products respond to the increasingly transversal needs of a wide range of markets: from the road and rail transport industry, mechanical and pneumatic production, furniture and interior design to construction and architecture.

METRA has entrusted System Robot Automazione, a Tiesse Robot subsidiary, with the automation of its milling process.
Specifically, the island is an 'HP line' model machining centre with 5 axes on the Numerical Control tool, consisting of a structure with Cartesian axes and a suspended gantry.
A moving beam slides on guides positioned on lateral pillars: longitudinal axis "Y", on which the carriage of the transverse axis "X" slides which supports the movement of the vertical arm for the 'Z' axis.

All linear axes are equipped with dual motorisation (2x Z-axis, 2x X-axis, 4x Y-axis). The operating unit is mounted on a bi-rotary head: "C" and "A" axes with 25kW spindle. There are 2 tool magazines with a total of 48 positions.

The island is specifically designed for high-speed cutting of non-ferrous materials; a very flexible machining centre that combines typical features such as precision, robustness and reliability with high standards of safety and manoeuvrability for milling, contouring, finishing, drilling and three-dimensional machining operations with up to 5 simultaneously interpolated axes. Ideal for milling complex model surfaces, composite laminates and large aluminium structures.
